While studying under my primary teacher, Masahiko Tokumitsu, I made mostly BW prints. This was his speciality, so his students worked in that direction also. His color prints were of birds and flowers; often, all or most of the colors were on the same block. When he had to print two or more blocks, he used one or two registration techniques which he seemingly invented. After finishing my 10 years with him, I studied color printing for three years under Toshi Yoshida. I learned the traditional keying method from him and have used it every since.

My color prints range in size from quite small, including miniature books, to middle size. There are a few very large works in color. Themes are varied; some are light feeling, others more dense. As time passes, strangely, I find it more difficult to make a simple BW print. Often when I begin to sketch, I just can't avoid adding one color, then another, then 3 or 4 or 6 more. Nevertheless, I do produce some BW prints. As with the color works, themes follow a full range of ideas.
